PITTSVILLE – The Auburndale softball team scored 13 runs in its final two at-bats to come back from a four-run deficit and defeat Pittsville 20-12 in a wild Marawood Conference South Division game Friday at Pittsville High School.
Pittsville led 7-0 after two innings before the Apaches scored six times in the third.
The Panthers pushed their lead back to 11-7 after five innings for Auburndale scored seven times in the sixth and six more times in the seventh to pull away.
Shannon Yahnke went 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Brooke Anderson had three RBIs and scored three times, Robyn Brokish was 3-for-4, and Sydney Schmutzer had three hits and four RBIs for Auburndale.
Brokish earned the win, giving up three runs in four innings of relief, as Auburndale improves to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the Marawood South. The game was Pittsville’s conference opener and it is 0-2 overall.
Auburndale hosts Tigerton and Iola-Scandinavia for a tournament on Saturday.
