Spencer baseball holds off Columbus Catholic

MARSHFIELD – Spencer scored two runs in the first and fourth innings, and held off a late rally to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 4-3 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball matchup Monday at Hackman Field.

Bobby Pilz earned the win for the Rockets, striking out four and walking just one. He tossed five shutout innings before being knocked out in the sixth when the Dons scored three times.

Mitch Susa entered to get the final out of the inning and tossed a scoreless seventh to get the save for Spencer (10-2, 6-1 Cloverbelt East).

Matthias Gouin had two hits for the Dons (4-4 overall and Cloverbelt East).

Calvin Lenz had a single, a double and an RBI, and Jonny Tomke drove in two runs for the Rockets.

Spencer plays at Greenwood and Columbus Catholic hosts Gilman in Cloverbelt East games on Tuesday.
