GREENWOOD – The Spencer softball team on its 11th game in a row and is now 7-0 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with an 8-2 victory over Greenwood on Tuesday.
Spencer scored four runs in the top of the first inning and held on from there as junior pitcher Macie Weber went the distance, five hits and six walks, while striking out five.
Lexi Baehr had three hits, including a double, and Lindsay Vaughan and Kallie Reckner each drove in a pair of runs for the Rockets (11-2 overall). Mandie Schultz also hit a home run for Spencer.
“I thought Greenwood is one of the most improved teams we have seen,” Spencer coach Jason Gorst said. “They really have made some strides. Lexi Baehr and Colleen Arnold did a nice job of producing out of the No. 6 and No. 7 spots. It was good to see Mandie Schultz hit a home run as well.”
Spencer hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic for a Cloverbelt East doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday at Spencer High School.
