Stratford High School softball player Lorrie Luepke has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com April High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Luepke garnered 52.5 percent of the 9,046 votes cast.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Luepke posted a 3-1 pitching record and was a key contributor on offense as well for the Tigers, who were 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the Marawood Conference South. Luepke tossed a five-inning no-hitter against Northland Lutheran and had three RBIs in a 15-0 victory on April 7. She allowed just three hits in beating Edgar 14-1 on April 14, and again had three RBIs. Against Wisconsin Rapids Assumption on April 24, Luepke struck out three and threw a two-hit shutout for the Tigers.
Other nominees for the April award were Auburndale track athlete Matt Lang, Columbus Catholic track athlete Christian Payant, and Spencer softball player Macie Weber.
