Neillsville shuts down Columbus Catholic baseball

MARSHFIELD – Neillsville scored a pair of runs in the first inning and busted the game open with a five-run second to ease past Marshfield Columbus Catholic 11-1 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Friday at Jack Hackman Field.

Neillsville remains unbeaten this season, moving to 12-0 overall and 11-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Columbus Catholic dropped its fourth-straight game this week and is now 4-7 overall and in the conference.

Columbus was held to three hits by Neillsville hurler Neal Matson, who struck out eight and walked four.

The Dons’ host Wisconsin Rapids Assumption in a nonconference doubleheader Saturday at Hackman Field beginning at 9:45 a.m.
