Marshfield baseball splits doubleheader with New Richmond

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader against New Richmond on Saturday, losing the first game 7-2 and coming back to win Game 2 6-5.

Mason Tysver suffered the loss in the opener as Marshfield was held to three hits.

New Richmond scored five runs in the third inning of the second game and lead 5-1 before the Tigers mounted a comeback.

Marshfield scored once in the fifth, twice in the sixth and ended up winning it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Tyson Slade had an infield RBI single to score Sam Klein with the tying run. Matt Meyer followed with another single to plate Braden Bohman with the winning run.

Jake Brueggen earned the win with four shutout innings of relief.

Marshfield (8-7) will play at Merrill on Tuesday and host the Bluejays on Thursday in a pair of Wisconsin Valley Conference games. Both games will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
