SPENCER – For the first time this season the Spencer softball team was at full strength with no injuries on Tuesday, and the Rockets continued their torrid offensive production by crushing Colby 22-2 and 15-4 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division doubleheader at ARC Park.
The victories are the fifth and sixth in a row for the Rockets, who improve to 6-3 overall and 5-2 in conference play after an 0-3 start to their season. Spencer has scored in double digits in all six wins, and has scored 20 runs or more three times.
Colby falls to 2-7, 2-6 in the Cloverbelt East.
The first game only went three innings as Spencer pummeled Colby pitcher with 22 runs and 13 hits. Spencer also walked 14 times.
Dominique Stange had two hits, three runs scored and five RBIs, and Paige Johnson had two hits and three RBIs to lead the charge for Spencer. Winning pitcher Nicki Bruss and Danica Johnson also had two RBIs each.
In Game 2, Spencer busted open a 4-4 game with an 11-run fourth inning and Dominique Stange did the rest, shutting down the Hornets over the final three innings. She also added a single, a double and three RBIs to finish the twinbill 4-for-6 with eight RBIs. Paige Johnson added another two hits and three RBIs and Krystal Weier had three RBIs for the Rockets.
Spencer plays at first-place and undefeated Neillsville on Thursday and hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Friday.
