EDGAR – Kayleigh Kundinger had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs, and five other Auburndale players had two or more hits as the Apaches crushed Edgar 14-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday.
The victory for Auburndale snaps a six-game losing streak and improves its record to 4-7 overall and 2-7 in the Marawood South. Edgar falls to 4-7 and 3-6 in conference play.
Kelli Isaacson was 3-for-4 with a triple, and Kayla Gotz, Stacy Brokish, Becky Willfahrt and Heather Nigh each had two hits for the Apaches. Brokish added a pair of RBIs and a double in support of freshman Nicole Nikolay, who walked five, allowed five hits and had two strikeouts in the six-inning, complete-game victory.
The Apaches trailed 1-0 after two innings before putting up eight runs in the third and six more over the next three innings to win going away.
Auburndale had seven errors, but coach Dawn Urban said a pair of pickoffs by catcher Kelli Isaacson and two double plays by the Apaches infield helped fuel the victory.
Auburndale is scheduled to host Marathon on Friday.
