SHEBOYGAN – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Senior American Legion baseball team went 4-1 and finished second at the Sheboygan Legion Tournament this past weekend.
Marshfield defeated Menasha 5-3 on Friday, edged Plover 4-3 and routed Sheboygan 13-3 on Saturday, and defeated Green Bay Southwest 13-2 on Sunday before falling in the championship game to Sheboygan 9-8.
Sam Neville was the winning pitcher for Marshfield against Menasha on Friday. He tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts and no walks. Trevor Schwecke had two hits and Nate McDonald had a pair of RBIs for the Blue Devils.
Jake Brueggen earned the win and Jeremy Binder garnered the save in the win over Plover on Saturday.
McDonald, Schwecke and Booker Bredlau each had two hits in the victory.
Against Sheboygan on Saturday, Bobby Pilz was the winning pitcher. Sam Neville went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs to lead the Blue Devils’ offense.
Neal Matson had four hits and Scott Berg picked up the victory over Green Bay Southwest on Sunday.
In the championship game, Schwecke took the loss in relief of Jack Donahue as the Blue Devils dropped the slugfest.
Neville had three hits and McDonald and Shane Coker each had a pair of hits for Marshfield.
Marshfield returns to action Tuesday with a home game against Plover.
