Athens High School track athlete Aaron Wickman has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com June High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Wickman garnered 58 percent of the more than 1,300 votes cast.
Wickman, a senior, won a pair of individual titles and was part of a winning relay team at the WIAA State Track & Field Championships in La Crosse on June 5-6.
Wickman won the Division 3 boys 100 meters in 11.47 seconds, the 200 meters in 22.18 seconds, and joined Chase Vitort, Tristin Falk-LeFay and Tyler Masephol to win the 800 relay in 1:31.23.
Other nominees for the June award were Spencer track athlete Johanna Ellefson, Marathon baseball player Ryan Gassner and Loyal track athlete Morgan Malm.
The 2014-15 WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com High School Athlete of the Year will be announced July 10.
WDLB-WOSQ Radio and MarshfieldAreaSports.com is proud to announce that the High School Athlete of the Month Award will continue during the 2015-16 school year. The monthly awards will begin in September.
