NEILLSVILLE – Spencer’s suddenly potent offense met its match Thursday against Neillsville.
The Rockets softball team, who had scored in double digits in each game of a six-game winning streak, was held to two runs on Thursday in a 7-2 loss to Neillsville.
Neillsville remains unbeaten in Cloverbelt Conference East Division action at 9-0 (10-1 overall), while Spencer falls to 6-4 and 5-3 in conference play.
Nicki Bruss, Monica Stange and Krystal Weier each went 2-for-3 for the Rockets, who had nine hits in all but could only muster the two runs against Neillsville pitcher Cassandra Craig, who struck out five. Craig also was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Warriors.
Bruss was the losing pitcher, giving up 10 hits, seven runs (four earned) and three walks in six innings.
Spencer hosts Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Friday at 5 p.m. at ARC Park.
