AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale football team overcame a five-point halftime deficit with a dominating second half and blew past Rib Lake/Prentice 47-24 in a Marawood Conference game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The win is the first of the season for the Apaches, who were shut out in their first two games. Auburndale is now 1-2 overall and in the Marawood, while Rib Lake/Prentice drops to 0-3 and 0-2 in the conference.
Kurt Jankowski ran for 307 yards and scored five touchdowns for the Apaches, who piled up 492 yards on the ground of outgained the Hawks 515-402.
Jankowski scored on runs of 40, 59, 1, 18 and 3 yards. Aaron Willfahrt added a 6-yard touchdown run, and quarterback Ryan Isaacson had a 10-yard TD run for Auburndale. Willfahrt finished with 123 yards on the ground and Isaacson added another 90 for the Apaches.
Trailing 18-13 at halftime, Auburndale outscored the Hawks 34-6 in the second half.
Hunter Swan had 255 yards rushing and three touchdowns for Rib Lake/Prentice. His three scores, coming from 22, 55 and 55 yards out, all came in the second quarter.
Auburndale plays at Chequamegon in Park Falls next Friday.
