Spencer wins title at Auburndale Volleyball Invitational

AUBURNDALE – Spencer went a perfect 6-0 to win the title at the annual Auburndale Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at Auburndale High School.

The Rockets defeated Stratford 2-0 (25-23, 25-23), Auburndale 2-1 (26-28, 25-12, 15-9), Prentice 2-0 (25-19, 25-21), Iola-Scandinavia (25-12, 25-7), Marshfield Columbus Catholic 2-0 (25-20, 25-17), and Mosinee 2-1 (25-22, 18-25, 15-10), to take the team title.

Macie Weber had 67 kills, 20 blocks and eight aces, McKenzie Bainer had 97 assists, and Jenna Rogers had 75 digs to lead Spencer.

“It was a solid day,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We are starting to gel as a team. Everyone pitched in throughout the day. Macie really started to get more aggressive at the net today.”

Columbus Catholic went 4-2 to take third and Auburndale was 3-3 and finished fourth.

The Dons beat Pittsville 2-0 (25-7, 25-16), lost to second-place Mosinee 2-0 (25-20, 25-13), beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 2-1 (25-14, 21-25, 15-11), beat Stevens Point Pacelli 2-0 (26-24, 25-16), lost to Spencer, and beat Auburndale 2-1 (17-25, 25-12, 15-12).

Kendra Baierl had 55 kills, Celine Scholin added 28 kills, Sierra Litwatis had 51 digs and 10 service aces, and Jennifer Reigel had 74 assists for Columbus.

“The girls played hard and worked together today,” Columbus coach Kat Egle said. “Serve receive was a struggle at times, but we took home some great wins.”

Auburndale’s individual match scores were not provided.

Sydney Schmutzer had 100 assists and 19 digs, Mackenzie Raab had 46 digs, and Robyn Brokish had 41 kills for the Apaches.

Stratford’s results were not provided.
