Marshfield girls ninth at SPASH Cross Country Invitational

STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point easily swept the team titles at its home SPASH Cross Country Invitational on Saturday at Standing Rock Park.

The Marshfield girls placed ninth and Auburndale while 11th, while the Marshfield boys took 14th and Auburndale was 17th.

Anthony Anderson of D.C. Everest won the boys race in 16:12.6, five seconds ahead of Joey Rausch of Baraboo.

Jordan Dzikowich was the Marshfield boys leader for the first time this season, taking 47th in 18:29.8. Teammate Carter Chojnacki was 62nd in 18:49.8.

“The top six boys all broke into the 18s today and our fifth man less than 30 seconds behind our No. 1 man,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said.

Auburndale’s top runner was Carvey Empey, who finished 83rd in 19:26.9.

Autum Shurbert-Hetzel of Stevens Point won the girls race in 19:41.2, 12 seconds ahead of Erika Kisting of Iola-Scandinavia.

Morgan Irish earned a medal, taking 23rd in 21:10 for the Tigers. Dani Bender was 41st in 22:05 for Marshfield, which was running without three of its normal varsity runners.

Isabella Jewell led Auburndale with a time of 21:17.5, taking 25th.

Marshfield and Auburndale will both compete at the Smiley Invitational in Wausau on Saturday, Sept. 19.
