PHILLIPS – The Auburndale football team is back at the .500 mark after crushing Phillips 42-6 in a nonconference game Friday night at Phillips High School.
The Apaches are now 3-3, while Phillips drops to 2-4.
Auburndale is 2-2 in the Marawood Conference and needs to win two its final three games to qualify for the WIAA playoffs. The Apaches host Pittsville (2-4, 2-3 Marawood) on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m.
Aaron Willfahrt had 149 yards rushing on just 12 carries, Kurt Jankowski added 143 yards rushing on 16 carries, and both scored two touchdowns to lead the Apaches’ offense.
Quarterback Ryan Isaacson threw for 96 yards and scored on a rushing touchdown, and Nate Engelbright had a rushing score as well for Auburndale.
Auburndale outgained Phillips 498-180, held the Loggers to five first downs and forced four interceptions.
