MEDFORD – Marshfield senior Morgan Irish netted her first career win, taking first at the Medford Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Black River Golf Course.
Irish won the girls race in 19:40.0, more than six seconds ahead of second-place finisher Alayna Franson of Rhinelander.
Dani Bender was fifth (21:05.9), Julianna Kollross took sixth (21:09.1) and Sophia Schrodi finished eighth (21:21.9) to help lift Marshfield to the girls team title with 39 points. Medford was second with 48.
The Marshfield boys finished second with 58 points behind champion Medford (33).
Jordan Dzikowich led the Tigers by finishing eighth in 17:45.9. Carter Chojnacki finished 10th in 17:57.2.
“We thought we matched up well at this meet and the kids ran well today,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “Morgan was the meet winner and she ran a brilliant race. A number of the kids stepped up today and we really enjoyed ourselves in the process.”
Marshfield’s next meet is Oct. 10 at the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational.
