WAUSAU – The Marshfield volleyball team continued its hot streak, rolling to three three-set sweeps at the second Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament of the season on Saturday at Wausau East High School.
Marshfield beat Wisconsin Rapids 25-13, 25-8, 25-6; Wausau West 25-14, 25-11, 25-14; and first-place Merrill 25-14, 25-18, 25-20, to extend its winning streak to eight and improve to 8-2 in the WVC.
Marshfield is tied with D.C. Everest for second place in the conference standings, one win behind Merrill. The Tigers host Everest on Tuesday and finish the regular season Thursday at Stevens Point.
“I am so proud of what our team accomplished today,” Marshfield coach Dawn Sadowska said. “We are doing all of the things we have talked about doing – being aggressive in our serving and attacking and believing in ourselves. We are playing some of our best volleyball right now, exactly when we want to be as we head into the postseason.”
Four Marshfield players had more than 20 kills in the three wins. Stephanie Rhodes led the way with 31, Ema Fehrenbach added 23, Alexa Aumann had 22 and Hannah Meverden had 21 for the Tigers.
Meverden added six blocks, Anna Ripp had 87 assists and eight service aces, and Sara Dasler had 43 digs for Marshfield (29-8 overall).
