MARSHFIELD – Charles Payant had a goal and two assists to lift the Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team to another win as it blanked Gresham/Bowler 6-0 in a nonconference game Monday at Griese Park.
With the win, the Dons improve to 12-0-3 this season with two games remaining. Columbus hosts Mauston in a nonconference game Tuesday and wraps up its regular-season schedule Thursday with a Mid-State Soccer Conference matchup against Tri-County.
The Dons need to beat Tri-County and hope McDonell/Regis ties or loses against Wausau Newman Catholic in order to earn either a share or sole possession of first place in the MSSC. McDonell/Regis is 9-0-2, while Columbus Catholic is 8-0-3 in conference play.
Payant scored off an assist from Alexandra Hutchison and assisted on goals by Nadim Torbey and Hutchison to give the Dons a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Columbus continued to pour it on in the second half with goals from Calvin Brown and Evan Dieringer. A Gresham/Bowler own goal accounted for another Dons’ score.
Bailey Keffer and Kellen Heinzen combined for the shutout in goal for the Dons.
