WESTON – The Marshfield boys soccer team can stake its claim to one major accomplishment this season – it is the only Wisconsin Valley Conference team to not to lose to D.C. Everest.

The Tigers fought first-place Everest to a 0-0 tie in a WVC matchup Tuesday night at D.C. Everest Middle School.

Marshfield, which defeated Everest 1-0 last month, improves to 8-6-3 overall and 7-3-1 in the WVC. With the tie, Everest clinches the conference championship and is now 14-1-2 overall.

“I thought our intensity and focus was there for the full 90 minutes,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “Ben Simon, Leo Steiner and Nathan Carlson had strong games in defensive midfield. Our defense, playing strong like they did tonight, will be a key for us as we look forward to the postseason.”

Marshfield’s Mathias Holm and Everest’s Alex Pagel each had eight saves in goal.

Marshfield is 6-2-1 in its last nine games heading into its regular-season finale at home against Wausau East on Thursday. The Senior Night and Breast Cancer Awareness game begins at 4 p.m. at Griese Park.

The WIAA playoffs begin next week with regionals on Oct. 22 and Oct. 24. Pairings will be announced by the WIAA later this week.
