MARSHFIELD – Marshfield Columbus Catholic busted open a tight game with six goals in the second half and cruised to a 7-0 victory over Northland Lutheran in a WIAA Division 4 boys soccer regional semifinal at Griese Park.
The Dons improve to 14-1-3 and move on to host a regional final on Saturday against Stevens Point Pacelli (12-8-4). The game will begin at 1 p.m. at Griese Park.
Nick Malovrh scored 5:34 into the game, off an assist from Nadim Torbey, to give Columbus Catholic an early 1-0 lead.
Northland Lutheran (2-9-2) kept the game close despite the Dons controlling the ball on the Wildcats’ side of the field throughout.
Columbus finally broke the game open early in the second half. Tyler Fuerlinger cranked home a shot from 25 yards out 4:17 into the second half, and Malovrh scored again 2 minutes later to put the Dons up 3-0.
Charles Payant added a goal in the 61st minute, Nadim Torbey had two goals in a span of 1:10, and Noah Hansen capped the scoring with a goal with 5:04 remaining in the game.
Malovrh and Farid Torbey each had two assists, and Evan Dieringer also had one of Fuerlinger’s goal.
The Dons outshot Northland Lutheran 26-1 overall and had an astonishing 25-0 edge in corner kicks as they shut out the Wildcats for the third time this season.
