OWEN – The Spencer softball team continued its recent offensive explosion, routing Owen-Withee 24-0 and 14-7 on Tuesday.
The Rockets have won nine of their last 10 games and improve to 9-4 overall and 8-3 in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division. Spencer has scored in double figures in each of those nine wins following an 0-3 start to its season.
Owen-Withee falls to 2-7, 2-6 in the conference.
In the opener, Spencer scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and added eight more in the second and five in the third as the game was shortened to three innings due to the 20-run lead.
Nicki Bruss didn’t allow a hit in three innings pitching, and also went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBIs. Paige Johnson and Monica Stange each had three RBIs, and five players scored at least three runs – led by Courtney Schulz’s four.
In the second game, Paige Johnson was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBIs, and Dominique Stange and Krystal Weier each had three RBIs for the Rockets.
Dominique Stange earned the win on the mound, striking out two and walking two in 4 1/3 innings.
Dani Johnson and Weier each had two hits for the Rockets.
The second game was called after five innings due to rain.
Spencer plays at Loyal on Thursday with a chance to move into second place in the conference with a victory.
