Spencer/Columbus Catholic football player Noah Zastrow has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com October High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Zastrow edged Marshfield volleyball player Anna Ripp by just seven votes to win the award.
Other nominees for the October award were Marathon football player Ryan Gassner and Athens football player Jake Stange.
Zastrow, a junior running back/defensive back, has been an integral part of a quick-strike rushing attack for the undefeated Rockets. Zastrow had 94 yards on just eight carries and scored a 59-yard touchdown in a 39-0 win over Altoona on Oct. 2 and had 115 yards rushing in a win over Edgar on Oct. 9. Zastrow had his highest output of the season in the Rockets’ Division 5 Level 1 playoff win over New Glaurs/Monticello on Oct. 23 with 237 combined rushing and receiving yards and a pair of scores in a 54-8 victory. Zastrow also had 88 yards rushing in the Rockets’ Level 2 win on Oct. 30.
Zastrow joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.
