RHINELANDER – The Marshfield baseball team needed a win Tuesday to make a case that it was a serious contender in the Wisconsin Valley Conference title chase, but the Tigers came up a run short in a 7-6 loss to the Hodags.
The loss drops Marshfield to 4-13 overall and 4-4 in the Valley, two games behind first-place Rhinelander with only four games remaining in the conference schedule.
Marshfield plays at Wausau East on Thursday.
