MARSHFIELD – The University of Wisconsin-Marshfield/Wood County women’s basketball team had its four-game winning streak snapped after suffering a 39-37 loss to first-place UW-Marinette on Wednesday at the Marauder Gym.
Both teams shot under 25 percent from the field and struggled from the free throw line as well. The Marauders were just 13 of 62 (21 percent) shooting and missed 13 of 23 free throw attempts, while Marinette was 14 of 56 (24.6 percent) from the field and only 8 of 21 at the line.
Hayley Bunnell topped UW-Marshfield (6-2 overall and Wisconsin Collegiate Conference) with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
The Marauders would have pulled into a tie for first place with Marinette with a victory, but are now games behind the Lady Bucs (9-1 overall, 8-0 WCC).
The Marauders now have the next month off from competition for winter break and resume play on Jan. 13 at home against UW-Fox Valley.
Marinette also won the men’s game, beating UW-Marshfield (2-6) 97-85. Game statistics were not provided.
