STEVENS POINT – The Marshfield boys basketball team was held to 37 percent shooting and just 20 second-half points in a 79-50 loss to No. 1-ranked Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Valley Conference opener for both teams on Friday night at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Stevens Point (4-0), ranked first in the latest Wissports.net Division 1 state coaches poll, led 39-30 at halftime before pulling away by doubling up the Tigers 40-20 in the second half.
Trevor Anderson scored 26 points and Joey Hauser added 22 points for the Panthers.
Marshfield’s top scorer, Adam Fravert, was held to just three points on 1 of 10 shooting.
Ethan Voss scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Tigers. Grant Michaelis added 11 points and Alec Hinson had 10 for Marshfield, which is now 2-3 overall.
Marshfield hosts Mosinee in a nonconference matchup Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
