MARSHFIELD – Brandon Guy had a double and a home run, and Colby took advantage of nine walks and five errors to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 19-8 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Friday at Jack Hackman Field.
The Hornets remain in second place in the Cloverbelt East standings with the victory, improving to 9-4 overall and 8-3 in the conference. The Dons fall to 1-9, 1-7 in the Cloverbelt East.
Colby led 12-0 after an eight-run second inning and pushing across a single run in the third. The Dons responded with eight runs of their own in the third against Guy, who was lifted after walking six and allowing eight runs and three hits.
Tyler Empey relieved and closed the door in the third and threw two more shutout innings for Colby, which didn’t let up on the offensive end.
The Hornets scored five times in the fourth and two more in the fifth to put away the victory.
David Green had two doubles for the Dons, who return to action Tuesday when they play Neillsville at 5 p.m. and Loyal at 7 p.m. at Hackman Field.
