EAU CLAIRE – The Marshfield boys swim team, competing without two of its top varsity performers due to illness, finished in a tie for ninth at the Santa Claus Invitational on Saturday at Eau Claire Memorial High School.
The Tigers tied River Falls for ninth with 56 points among the 11 teams at the meet. Host Eau Claire Memorial/North won the team title with 334 points, well in front of second-place Stevens Point (229).
Marshfield’s top finish came in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Brian Engel, Ben Donahue, Michael Kruse and Calden Wojt took fourth in 3:48.57.
Engel had two of the top individual performances for Marshfield, taking ninth in the 100 backstroke (1:06.30) and 10th in the 100 freestyle (55.53). Kruse was 10th in the 100 butterfly (1:07.98) and Wojt took 11th in the 50 freestyle (25.23).
Marshfield’s next meet is at home on Jan. 5 against D.C. Everset.
