Stratford wrestler Jeremy Schoenherr has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com December High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Schoenherr, a sophomore and defending WIAA Division 3 state champion at 113 pounds, has moved up to 126 pounds this season and is off to an 20-0 start.
Schoenherr won the 126-pound title at the Bi-State Classic in La Crosse on Dec. 29-30, going a perfect 5-0 with one pin. He beat previously undefeated Trenton McManus of Adams-Friendship 5-1 in the title match. He also went 5-0 at Stratford’s home Schoenherr Duals on Dec. 5 and at the Neenah Team Duals on Dec. 12.
Schoenherr earned 43 percent of the nearly 3,000 votes cast during voting at MarshfieldAreaSports.com from Jan. 1-7. Marshfield gymnast Megan Smith was a close second.
Other December nominees were Neillsville girls basketball player Kayla Lis, Abbotsford boys basketball player Treven Gorst, and Spencer/Columbus Catholic wrestler Tim Bauer.
Schoenherr joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September), Spencer/Columbus football player Noah Zastrow (October), and Marshfield girls basketball player Ema Fehrenbach (November) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.
