Auburndale girls basketball rally past Wausau Newman Catholic

AUBURNDALE – The Auburndale girls basketball team used a strong second-half run to top Wausau Newman Catholic 36-31 in a Marawood Conference South Division game Thursday night at Auburndale High School.

Newman Catholic led 16-14 at halftime before the Apaches rallied with a seven-point advantage in the second half to improve their record to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in the Marawood South. Newman drops to 5-8 and 2-5 in the conference.

Allison Linzmeier scored 12 points and had four steals, and Paiton Richardson had 10 points and five rebounds for Auburndale.

Auburndale hosts Spencer in a nonconference game on Tuesday as part of a girls-boys doubleheader. The girls game starts at 6 p.m., with the boys to follow at approximately 7:45 p.m.
