MARSHFIELD – It was just one of those nights for the Marshfield boys basketball team.

Marshfield fell behind early and never could catch up, dropping a 55-49 decision to Wausau West in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Friday night at The Boson Company Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

West (6-8, 4-2 Wisconsin Valley Conference) used a 14-3 run to start the game and never trailed.

The Tigers had two different four-minute stretches where they didn’t make a field goal, but was able to cut West’s lead to 25-18 by halftime after a pair of free throws from Adam Fravert.

A 3-pointer from Alec Hinson, one of five makes from long range for the Marshfield junior guard, made it 25-21 early in the second half, but the Tigers (7-6, 2-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference) went another 3:30 without a basket.

A 3-pointer from Jacob Wokatsch and two free throws by Steven Lewendowski put West back on top by 10 at 38-28.

Marshfield cut it to six after a basket by Ethan Voss and had the ball with a chance to get closer, but missed a pair of shots.

The Tigers didn’t make a basket from the field after Hinson’s fifth 3-pointer at the 1;51 mark, but made six of nine free throws to stay close.

Hinson’s two free throws with 26.5 seconds to go brought the Tigers to within four at 53-49, however they missed three 3-point attempts in the final seconds and West held on.

Hinson finished with a game-high 20 points, going 5 of 10 from 3-point range. The rest of the Tigers missed all 16 3-point attempts they tried.

The Warriors made 10 of 15 free throws in the final 5 minutes to hold on to the lead.
