Stratford girls basketball player Savannah Schillinger has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com January High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Schillinger received 1,566 of the nearly 3,500 votes cast.
Schillinger, a senior guard, was the Tigers’ leading scorer in January as Stratford went 5-2. She scored 25 points in a win over Wausau Newman Catholic on Jan. 19, drilling 5 of 7 3-pointers, and also made four 3-pointers in a win over Pittsville on Jan. 5, scoring 20 points.
Other January nominees were Owen-Withee girls basketball player Whitney Baehr, Spencer boys basketball player Bobby Pilz, Loyal boys basketball player Cameron Brussow, and Auburndale girls basketball player Paiton Richardson.
Schillinger joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September), Spencer/Columbus football player Noah Zastrow (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Ema Fehrenbach (November), and Stratford wrestling Jeremy Schoenherr (December) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.
