KRONENWETTER – The Auburndale girls basketball team took another step toward its first Marawood Conference South Division championship with a 59-31 whitewashing of Northland Lutheran on Thursday night at Northland Lutheran High School.
Auburndale jumped out to a 33-14 lead by halftime as it rolled to its 11th win in a row. The Apaches are now 17-2 overall and 9-2 in the Marawood South. Auburndale finishes its conference schedule Friday at Pittsville, and with a win, it would clinch a share of the Marawood South title with Marathon. Wisconsin Rapids Assumption would also split the conference title with a win against Stratford on Tuesday.
Paiton Richardson scored 19 points and Taylor Gotz added 18 for the Apaches. Allison Linzmeier chipped in with eight points.
Beka Edelburg scored 14 points to lead the Wildcats (5-15, 1-11 Marawood South).
After the game against Pittsville, the Apaches will wrap up their regular-season schedule with a nonconference game at Athens on Tuesday and a Marawood North-South crossover game on Feb. 19 or 20 against an opponent yet to be determined.
