Neillsville wins defensive struggle against Spencer girls basketball

NEILLSVILLE – Neillsville held Spencer to 24 percent shooting and just 12 first-half points on its way to a 39-26 victory in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division girls basketball game Friday night at Neillsville High School.

Neillsville (16-3, 12-2 Cloverbelt East) only shot 29 percent (13 of 45), but made seven 3-pointers and forced 19 turnovers in the win.

Spencer (11-8, 8-6 Cloverbelt East) made just 9 of 37 shots from the field and missed eight of its 13 free throw attempts.

Lexi Baehr had nearly half of Spencer’s points, finishing with 12. No other Rocket had more than four.

Eight different Neillsville players scored, with no one tallying more than seven.

Spencer hosts Loyal on Saturday and is at Greenwood on Monday to wrap up its Cloverbelt East schedule.
