Auburndale boys basketball drops road game at Newman

WAUSAU – Wausau Newman Catholic pulled away with a 48-point second half to top Auburndale 69-62 in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball game Thursday night at Newman Catholic High School.

Dane Fronek had 25 points and Jake Gajewski added 22 for Newman (13-7, 7-5 Marawood South).

Auburndale trailed 21-20 at halftime before the Cardinals finished off the win with a big second half.

Caleb Weinfurter had 15 points and Colton Wright added 14 for Auburndale (6-12, 3-9 Marawood South).

Auburndale hosts Neillsville on Saturday and will play at Abbotsford on Monday in a pair of nonconference games.
