EAU CLAIRE – Marshfield freshman Emma Haugen tied for third in the vault to earn a spot at next week’s state tournament on Saturday at the WIAA Division 1 gymnastics sectional at Memorial High School.
Haugen had a score of 9.1 to tie Stevens Point’s Olivia Clemens and Hudson’s Eryn Crump for third place to earn a spot at the 2016 WIAA State Gymnastics Meet on March 5 at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School. Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau teammates Isabelle Kick (9.35) and Maya Budin (9.2) finished first and second in the event.
The top five in each event and the all-around earn spots in the individual tournament, which will be held next Saturday.
Stevens Point and G-E-T earned the top two team spots to qualify for the team state event on Friday.
Haugen had Marshfield’s top all-around finish, taking ninth with a score of 33.95. Megan Smith was 12th (32.45) and Isabelle Jensen (30.825) took 17th. Haugen was also seventh in the floor exercise (9.025) and 12th in the uneven bars (7.925).
Brooke McGrath tied for seventh in the vault (8.8) for the Tigers’ other top-10 finish.
