RHINELANDER – The Marshfield girls soccer team continues to fight hard, but just can’t find the win column, and Tuesday’s game was no different.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead into halftime but couldn’t hold on and lost to Rhinelander 2-1 to fall to 0-10 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference and 2-14-2 overall.

Katelyn Krug scored with just 12 seconds left on a breakaway to win it for Rhinelander.

Emily Wolfe netted the Tigers’ goal at the 8:07 mark of the first half off an assist by Allison Gruen and the score remained 1-0 in favor of Marshfield until 7:15 into the second half.

Rhinelander scored on an indirect kick by Claire Tracy to tie the game at 1-1 and Marshfield couldn’t muster anything else.

Marshfield had just three shots on goal in the loss.

The loss was the second heartbreaking defeat suffered by Marshfield at the hands of the Hodags.

On April 22, Marshfield rallied to tie the game late in the second half only to see Krug score 1:33 into the second overtime period.

Marshfield hosts D.C. Everest on Thursday in its home finale and wraps up Wisconsin Valley Conference action May 27 at Stevens Point. The Tigers also have a nonconference game at Merrill on Tuesday.
