WVC Girls Basketball
Marshfield senior guard McKayla Scheuer and junior forward Ema Fehrenbach were among the four unanimous first-team selections on the 2015-16 All-Wisconsin Valley Conference Girls Basketball Team, as voted on by the conference coaches.
Joining Scheuer and Fehrenbach on the first team as unanimous picks were Stevens Point sophomore Maggie Negaard and Wausau West junior Caitlin Deaton. Wisconsin Rapids senior Kendra Lysne was the other first-team selection.
Fehrenbach was second in the conference in scoring (18.5 points per game) and rebounding (7.4 per game), while Scheuer finished sixth in scoring (13.8 ppg), sixth in assists (2.5 per game), third in 3-pointers (20), and second in free throw percentage (83.3 percent) during conference play.
“McKayla Scheuer and Ema Fehrenbach were so consistent for us over the course of the year scoring-wise, but did so much for this team in other ways,” Marshfield coach Heidi Michaelis said. “Ema’s success is because of how hard she practices and plays every play each and every day.
“McKayla led this team on the floor and was the epitome of a senior leader who sometimes was unselfish for the benefit of making this team around her better. If her goal was to just score points she could have scored more, but she just wanted to win.”
Marshfield sophomore center Hannah Meverden was a second-team pick and junior guard Maddie Nikolai was an honorable mention selection as the Tigers won their first WVC title since 2011 finishing with a percent 12-0 record.
Meverden led the conference in rebounding (9.3 per game) and was fifth in field goal percentage (47.6 percent).
“I’m not sure I’ve ever had four kids get recognized and have to say it is very deserving for all of them,” Michaelis said. “This was a team made up of young ladies who just wanted to win and played like that through and through. I had a blast.”
Negaard was named Player of the Year after leading the conference in scoring at 23.1 points per game and free throw percentage (84.4 percent). She was also third in assists (3.1 per game) and sixth in rebounding (5.5 per game).

WVC Boys Basketball
Marshfield senior Adam Fravert and junior Alec Hinson were among the seven players named to the 2015-16 All-Wisconsin Valley Conference Boys Basketball Team as voted on by the seven conference coaches.
Undefeated conference champion Stevens Point had three players – Trevor Anderson, Sam Hauser and Joey Hauser – named to the first team. Those three, along with Wausau East senior JP Lacy, were unanimous first-team selections.
Hinson, Fravert and Wausau West junior Jakob Tordsen tied in the voting for the final spot on the first team.
Marshfield junior Grant Michaelis was an honorable mention selection.
Hinson finished fifth in scoring (13.8 points per game), tied for second in 3-point percentage (45.6 percent), second in total 3-pointers made (31), and sixth in free throw percentage (81.8) during conference play this season.
Fravert, an honorable mention choice a year ago, was seventh in scoring (13.1 ppg) and second in rebounding (8.3 per game) during WVC play.
“Anytime you put two first teamers on the all-conference team, you are happy for them,” Marshfield coach Scott Scheuer said. “Alec improved a lot from last year to this year. He put on some weight and got stronger, and he’s always working on his shooting. Adam went 14 weeks without doing anything (due to a broken collarbone). He started slow but got stronger and better as the season went on and deserves this honor.”
Anderson and Sam Hauser earned Co-Player of the Year honors and Stevens Point’s Scott Anderson and Wausau West’s Nate Lemmens were Co-Coach of the Year.
Anderson became the first player in conference history to be named Player of the Year four times. He joins Rhinelander’s Johnny Kotz (1936-39) as the only players to earn first-team all-conference honors four times.
Anderson topped the conference in scoring (24.8 ppg), field goal percentage (64.2 percent), 3-point percentage (58.1 percent), and 3-pointers made (36), and was tied with Sam Hauser for second in assists (3.9 per game).
Sam Hauser and Lacy were repeat first-team selections, along with Anderson.
