Auburndale duo named to Marawood South girls first team
Auburndale seniors Taylor Gotz and Paiton Richardson were among the five players selected to the first team of the 2015-16 All-Marawood Conference South Division Girls Basketball Team, as voted on by the seven conference coaches.

Gotz was one of four unanimous first-team picks after finishing third in the conference in scoring at 15.2 points per game. She also was second in assists at 3.0 per game and averaged six rebounds a contest for the Apaches, who tied Wisconsin Rapids Assumption and Marathon for the conference title with a 10-2 record. Gotz finished her career with 894 points, 560 rebounds, 202 steals, and 193 assists.

“Taylor has continued to dominate in all areas of the game, leading the team in rebounds, assists and steals, while also scoring more than 350 points,” Auburndale coach Scott Meidl said. “She is a senior who leads by example in the way she plays every single night.”

Richardson finished second in scoring at 16.3 points per game and also averaged six rebounds a game for Auburndale. She ended her career with 814 points and 319 rebounds.

Joining the two Apaches on the first team were Wisconsin Rapids Assumption’s Gena Grundhoffer, who was named Player of the Year, and Macie Zurfluh, and Marathon’s Morgan Rachu.

“Paiton is definitely the most improved basketball player I have seen,” Meidl said. “She finally got her chance to start this year and took full advantage. Her ability to use both hands in the post allowed here to be more effective on the offensive end.”

Stratford senior guard Savannah Schillinger was second-team selection after leading the conference in 3-point percentage (37.3), finishing second in 3-pointers made with 24, and finishing fourth in scoring at 13 points per game.

Auburndale’s Sylviann Momont and Allison Linzmeier, and Stratford’s Sammy Griesbach and Andie Zuelke were among the honorable mention selections.
