STEVENS POINT – Marshfield’s Pat Hayes shot a 79 to finish in a four-way tie for third place on Tuesday at the sixth leg of the Wisconsin Valley Conference boys golf tournament at Stevens Point Country Club.
Hayes finished three strokes off the lead that was shared by Matthew Sundquist of Wausau West and Josh Willis of Rhinelander as both shot 76s.
Marshfield finished fourth for the third straight leg of the seven-event tournament, compiling a total of 334 to tie with Stevens Point. Wausau West moved into the overall lead, winning Tuesday’s meet with a 319. West holds a two-point lead over Wisconsin Rapids, which tied with Rhinelander for second with scores of 323.
Michael Josephson shot an 83, Brandon Brown had an 85, Mike Field shot an 87 and Jake Plank fired a 90 for the Tigers.
Field is the top Marshfield individual overall as he stands in 13th place heading into Friday’s final leg of the tournament at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield.
Larry Wetzel of D.C. Everest, who tied with Hayes with a 79, moved into the individual lead, one point better than Wausau West’s Josh Sturm, who tied for ninth on Tuesday.
