Columbus Catholic baseball loses at Loyal

LOYAL – Loyal scored 10 runs combined in the second and third innings to hold off Marshfield Columbus Catholic 11-8 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division baseball game Tuesday at Loyal High School.

Loyal jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings before Columbus Catholic (0-3, 0-2 Cloverbelt East) rallied for five runs in the third.

However, the Greyhounds responded with four runs in the bottom of the third and held on from there.

Kanyon Rachu earned the win in relief for Loyal, giving up three runs in four innings.

Ben Zimmerman, Luke Bogdonovich, Brendan Collins and Colton Roehl each had two RBIs for Loyal.

Billy Young gave up all 11 runs, eight of which were earned, in 2 2/3 innings to suffer the loss for Columbus. Young had three of the Dons’ 10 hits, including a double. Matthias Gouin and Noah Taylor each drove in a pair of runs for Columbus.

The Dons hosts Gilman on Thursday.
