Pilz, Spencer baseball shuts out Neillsville

SPENCER – Bobby Pilz tossed a two-hit shutout to propel the Spencer baseball team to a 4-0 shutout of Neillsville in the Rockets’ season-opener Tuesday at Spencer High School.

Pilz tossed six no-hit innings before giving up back-to-back hits to lead off the seventh. He responded by striking out the side to preserve the shutout.

Pilz went 2-for-4 at the plate, Jonny Tomke walked four times out of the leadoff spot in the lineup, and Hunter Luepke added a single, a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases for Spencer.

Pilz struck out nine and walked one for the Rockets.

Spencer hosts Columbus Catholic on Friday.
