RIVER FALLS – The Marshfield girls soccer team split a pair of games Saturday at the River Falls Quadrangular, blanking Menomonie 2-0 before losing to River Falls 2-0.
Marshfield is now 2-6 this season and will finally open its home schedule with a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup against Stevens Point at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park.
After a scoreless first half against Menomonie, Maddie Haessly scored at the 52:04 mark and shortly after that, Julia Urban drilled home a shot from 25 yards out to put the Tigers up 2-0.
Marshfield outshot Menomonie 14-6 and Kate Herron made all six saves in goal for the Tigers.
River Falls scored both of its goals in the first 14½ minutes and that proved to be enough as the Tigers couldn’t score.
“We came out flat and even before the game started, I could sense a lackadaisical walkthrough,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “At halftime the girls decided that pride was not going to allow this game to get out of hand. We played much better and for the most part closer to even. I was proud of the way we played the second half, and if we played with this enthusiasm and intensity in the first half, the score could have been different.”
Andrea Carolfi had eight saves in goal for the Tigers.
