SPENCER – Nate Neumann struck out eight and earned the victory with a five-inning two-hitter as the Spencer baseball team remained unbeaten with a 12-2 rout of Gilman in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Tuesday at Spencer High School.

The Rockets are now 5-0 overall and 4-0 in the Cloverbelt East. Gilman drops to 1-3 overall and in the conference.

The Rockets scored four times in the first and added another in the second to take a quick 5-0 lead.

After Gilman scored twice in the fourth, Spencer put the game away via the 10-run rule with a seven-run bottom of the fifth innings.

Bobby Pilz went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Hunter Luepke was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for Spencer.

“Nate did a real nice job of letting his defense work tonight,” Spencer coach Steve Pilz said. “Our pitching has been carrying us and Nate is a big part of that.”

The Rockets play at Colby on Friday.
