AUBURNDALE – Wisconsin Rapids Assumption scored six runs in the top of the first inning and that was more than enough as the Royals beat Auburndale 14-3 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Thursday at Auburndale High School.
Assumption (7-9, 5-7 Marawood South) built a 10-1 lead after scoring four more times in the fourth.
Kayla Gotz was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Nicole Nikolay added an RBI in the loss for Auburndale, which wraps up its regular season with a 5-15 record, 2-12 Marawood South. Nikolay took the loss, walking seven and allowing 11 hits.
Chelsey Brandl and Kirsten Clark each went 3-for-3, and Jenna Moran was 2-for-5 with four RBIs for the Royals.
Moran also earned the win, striking out two and walking just one.
Auburndale opens WIAA Division 3 regional action with a quarterfinal game at Edgar next Thursday, May 27.
