AUBURNDALE – Auburndale pounded out 13 hits and scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to edge Wausau Newman Catholic 8-7 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Friday at Auburndale High School.
Auburndale (2-5-1, 1-3 Marawood South) tied the game at 6-6 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and after Newman Catholic (3-3, 2-3 Marawood South) scored in the top of the eighth, the Apaches plated two runs in the bottom of the frame to win it.
Alexis Soppe earned the win with two innings in relief of starter Rachael Bolder, who struck out five in six innings.
Jenna Ertl was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Hunter Hilber, Sydney Schmutzer, Robyn Brokish, and Brooke Anderson each had two hits for Auburndale. Hilber drove in three runs and Schmutzer had two RBIs.
Auburndale’s next game is Thursday at Stratford.
