MARSHFIELD – The Spencer baseball team survived a wild, back-and-forth game to beat Marshfield Columbus Catholic 12-10 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Thursday night at Jack Hackman Field.

Spencer led 4-1 after one inning before the Dons scored five times in the third to take the lead.

It was short-lived as the Rockets responded with four runs in the fourth and added three more in the sixth to pull ahead 12-7.

Columbus scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t get any closer as the Rockets hung on to improve to 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the Cloverbelt East. The Dons fall to 3-7 and 3-6 in the conference.

Calvin Lenz earned the win for the Rockets, giving up five runs in five innings of relief.

Hunter Luepke, Jonny Tomke and Jake Meyers each had two hits for Spencer.

Billy Young was 3-for-4, and Tyler Fuerlinger and Charles Payant each had two hits for Columbus, which had 10 in all.

Spencer is at Gilman and Columbus Catholic is at Colby in a pair of Cloverbelt East games Friday.
