RHINELANDER – The Marshfield girls soccer team rode the scoring of Olivia and Maddie Haessly to a 2-1 record at the Rhinelander Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Marshfield lost to Rhinelander 5-2 on Friday night and came back to defeated Shawano 5-2 and Iron Mountain (Mich.) 2-0 on Saturday to improve to 5-13-1 this season.
Maddie Haessly and Olivia Haessly had goals, on assists from Alexis Langteau and Maureen Cassidy, in the loss to Rhinelander. Andrea Carolfi had five saves in goal.
In the victory over Shawano, Maddie Haessly hit for a hat trick with three goals, and Olivia Haessly added a pair of scores. Ciera Neufeld, Emily Critelli and Julia Urban each had assists, and Carolfi had three saves in the Tigers’ win.
Maddie Haessly and Olivia Haessly each had goals in the shutout of Iron Mountain, with Olivia assisting on Maddie’s score. Carolfi had three saves as the Tigers dominated play.
“Overall, the coaching staff was very happy with the play on a blustery weekend,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “Our passing and control game was at our best this season. We will be able to use this to propel us into the final stages of the season.”
Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids on Senior and Parents’ Night on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Griese Park. The Tigers will then finish their regular-season schedule with road games at Merrill on May 19, at D.C. Everest on May 24, and at Wausau East on May 26. The WIAA playoffs begin June 2.
