LOYAL – The Spencer baseball team broke open a scoreless game with a seven-run fourth inning and rolled from there, beating Loyal 15-5 in a Cloverbelt Conference East Division game Friday, sending the Greyhounds to their first loss of the season.
Ryan Busse and Calvin Lenz each smacked home runs for the Rockets, who are now 13-4 overall and 12-3 in the Cloverbelt East. Loyal drops to 18-1 and 15-1 in the conference, having already clinched the Cloverbelt East title.
Bobby Pilz struck out eight to earn the win on the mound. Despite seven walks, Pilz only allowed three hits to limit the damage to three runs in six innings. He also went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs at the plate.
On Thursday, the Rockets lost at Greenwood 5-3. Spencer was limited to six hits in the loss.
Jonny Tomke also added two hits for the Rockets, who wrap up their Cloverbelt East schedule Tuesday at Owen-Withee.
