Marshfield softball player Megan Donahue has been voted as the WDLB-WOSQ Radio & MarshfieldAreaSports.com Mau High School Athlete of the Month.
The High School Athlete of the Month Award is sponsored by Marshfield Clinic, Cost Cutters Family Hair Care and Burt Trophy & Awards.
Varsity athletes from the following high schools are eligible to be nominated for the award: Abbotsford, Athens, Auburndale, Colby, Columbus Catholic, Edgar, Granton, Greenwood, Loyal, Marathon, Marshfield, Neillsville, Owen-Withee, Pittsville, Spencer, Stratford and Thorp.
Donahue, a sophomore pitcher/shortstop for the Marshfield softball team, received 424 of the nearly 1,200 votes cast, sneaking past Auburndale track athlete Sylviann Momont by just 17 votes to win the award.
Other nominees for the May award were Stratford baseball player Cole Hoffman, Marathon track athlete Xavier Lechleitner, and Spencer softball player Macie Weber.
Donahue hit .479 with six home runs and 22 RBIs during May for the Tigers, who advanced to the WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinals before losing 2-1 to Hudson. In that eight-inning loss to Hudson, Donahue struck out 17 Raiders. She finished the month with a 5-4 pitching record and 121 strikeouts, and had 13 home runs as a hitter this season.
Donahue joins Abbotsford volleyball player Makenzie Klieforth (September), Spencer/Columbus football player Noah Zastrow (October), Marshfield girls basketball player Ema Fehrenbach (November), Stratford wrestling Jeremy Schoenherr (December), Stratford girls basketball player Savannah Schillinger (January), Marshfield gymnast Emma Haugen (February), Marshfield track athlete Calden Wojt (March), and Athens softball player Hanna Ellenbecker (April) as winners of the monthly award during the 2015-16 school year.
