STEVENS POINT – Marshfield’s Nick Ackerman and Jacob Twardowski are still alive in the postseason after qualifying for sectionals Monday at the WIAA Division 1 boys tennis subsectional at Stevens Point Area Senior High.
Ackerman (16-3) reached the semifinals at No. 1 singles and Twardowski (11-5) reached the finals at No. 3 singles to qualify for Wednesday’s sectional meet at Wausau East and West high schools.
Stevens Point won the team title and will take its 24 points into the sectional as it tries to qualify for the team state meet. Wausau East is in second place with 22. Marshfield was fifth with six points.
The top four finishers in No. 1 singles and doubles, and the top two in other flights advance to the sectional meet.
The top four finishers in No. 1 singles and doubles and the winner of the No. 2 singles and doubles automatically qualify for the WIAA State Individual Tennis Tournament in Madison on June 3-5. Twardowski, playing at No. 3 singles, is ineligible for the state tournament.
